Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse was lit for the first time on December 27th 1900. The lighthouse was built on the coast's highest point, just over 60 meters above sea level and around 200 meters inland.

The height of the lighthouse is 23 meters and was equipped with its own gas plant for the use of lighting and fog horns. It was believed that the light from fat gas produced on oil had a better ability to penetrate the foggy weather.

On 22 October 2019, Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse was moved 70 meters inland to protect the iconic landmark from drifting into the sea.
